Baby massage is suitable at home (or in maternity) from birth. However, it is recommended that baby is at least 4 weeks old before attending a group course as it can be overwhelmingly stimulating for them before this age. Normally parents will wait until baby is about 6 weeks. At this time, you will have started to establish a routine and will be getting to know your baby better.
With our online course you can learn from the comfort of your own home and discover the magic of baby massage earlier. It can help your bonding process and allow you to become more confident in handling your baby. Click here to find out more.
Unfortunately it is not possible at this time.
If possible organic, unscented, cold-pressed vegetable oils are preferable. Such oils include sunflower oil, grapeseed oil and coconut oil. Our kit comes with your choice of organic cold-pressed Sunflower Oil or Kokoso’s Coconut Oil. Click here to find out more about the different oils.
If baby is crying, just stop the massage and attend to their other needs. Remember that baby massage should be a positive experience for both you and your baby. Baby may just not be in the mood for it, or perhaps they are coming down with something or perhaps they are in some discomfort. The most important thing is to always listen and react to your baby’s cues.
Once baby gets bigger and has started to become mobile, they often want to keep trying out their new skills and see what’s going on around them. You can try distracting them with toys or try holding them in another position, like sitting up so they can see what’s going on around them. Just adapt the massage to suit you and your baby.
In short, the answer is yes. Most baby massage classes will last between 1 to 1.5 hours. However, they tend to include at least half an hour for parents to have a cuppa whilst having a chat. The social side of attending classes is extremely valuable for parents. During a class, things also tend to take a bit longer as there will naturally be disruptions from babies and often parents want to ask questions and look for some direct instruction.
Thanks to the recognition of the benefits of baby massage, there are loads of classes to choose from around the UK. To find out what’s on in your local area, there are lots of websites that very helpfully list classes that are available in your local area. Here’s some to help you get started:

Of course, if you’re in Edinburgh, you can go to one of Tammy’s classes!
